Early thriller films go back as far as the 1920s, Alfred Hitchcock began a career in the late 20s were he created a successful "jack the ripper story" followed by another thriller "blackmail" which was also his first sound film. The sound films would have made his thrillers more successful as sound is a major part of a thriller and conventions, this would have lead to a new era of thriller films and letting them be more broad.
